SMART COLLAR: RE-POSITION, RE-CALCULATE, HIT THE TARGET!

 

As a value-added feature of the Production Optimiser system, Smart Collar enables the rig operator to precisely re-calculate new collar positions, in real-time, should the original marked collar be obstructed (by rock bolts, confined space or in-hole obstruction).

When the operator needs to reposition a collar, Smart Collar re-calculates the optimum drilling angle (‘dip’ and ‘dump’) in order to arrive at the originally designed toe point.  This not only reduces down-time, but most importantly –  maintains drilling accuracy.

Without Smart Collar, rig operators are often required to use look-up tables or take their ‘best guess’ as to how to reposition the collar and continue drilling.  Inaccurate drilling will lead to sub-optimal blasts – increasing the likelihood for bridging (unrecovered ore) and/or excess dilution and waste.
